About us...
Joe

I’m a fully qualified and accredited psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience. My journey into psychotherapy began during my sociology degree, where a module on psychoanalysis sparked my interest in understanding the human mind.

After working in health, social care, and youth services, I trained in person-centred counselling at Brighton University, graduating in 2012 and gaining accreditation with the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
My early work included counselling roles with children and young people, those dealing with addiction, and people facing bereavement. I also developed a broad private practice, supporting clients of all ages through a wide range of challenges.

In 2021, I completed a postgraduate diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) at the University of Sussex and went on to work in the NHS, where I gained BABCP accreditation (British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies).
Since 2023, I’ve focused fully on my private practice, working with both self-referring clients and those with insurance providers like AXA and Vitality.

I’m experienced in treating all anxiety disorders and depression, and have particular therapeutic interests in:
-
Low confidence and self-esteem
-
Grief, bereavement, and loss
-
Relationship and psychosexual issues (individuals and couples)
-
Work-related stress and burnout

Clients often describe my style as warm, relaxed, and easy to talk to. Therapy can feel strange at first, so I aim to make our conversations feel natural and genuine. I listen closely, respond honestly, and sometimes use humour where it helps. Building a strong therapeutic relationship is central to how I work — it’s the foundation for real, lasting change.

After completing a psychology degree at Surrey University in 2010, I began my career as a therapist within the NHS, supporting individuals through a wide range of emotional and psychological challenges.
I'm fully qualified in both low and high intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), as well as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) — an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD.
As an NHS supervisor, I provided clinical guidance to other therapists and remain committed to the highest standards of therapeutic care. I also have extensive experience in supporting people with long-term health conditions, helping them to manage the emotional impact of physical illness.
I have a special interest in PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder), and my training in EMDR allows me to work effectively with trauma in a safe, structured and evidence-based way.
I'm also passionate about supporting neurodivergent individuals, and have completed additional training in this area. I work in a flexible, affirming way, recognising and respecting different ways of thinking, feeling, and processing the world.
Alongside CBT, I integrate elements of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) into my work — helping clients build psychological flexibility and move towards a more meaningful life, even in the presence of difficulty.
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and grounded in evidence. I aim to create a safe, respectful space where you feel heard, understood, and empowered to make positive change.
